Operations
The operations can be carried out successfully because of the acquisition of new machines and new land for the expansion of production facilities. Also, the investment into expanding its fleet of 38 delivery trucks as well as continuously outsourcing delivery has also paid off. To date there are 5 production facilities, in which 8 local machines and 4 German machines operate round the clock. Supported by over 300 dedicated staff, Mr Johnson still runs the operations, sales and day to day activities.
It is estimated that PD Hollywood can generate over 250,000m2 of various concrete pavers and 500,000m of road curbs, precast panels, and bataco in a year. The drainage systems account for nearly 10,000m.
There is countless material shops in Jadebotabek enlisted as resellers. Even big gun contractors and real estate developers such as PT Total, PT Pulau Intan, PT PP, PT Wika, PT Agung Podomoro, PT Paramount Serpong and the local councils of Jakarta, Tangerang and Serang Public Works Department (PU) constantly source for the products. There is also a marketing-cum-showroom in Serpong.
The products
PD Hollywood's main industry revolves around concrete pavers or paving blocks. These pavers consist of numerous shapes and sizes and varies in thickness from 6cm to 8cm to even 10cm. The common usages of these pavers are for pedestrian walkways and car parks for vehicles ranging from sedan cars to trucks to even 40 ton trailers. Roads and car parks installed with concrete pavers can be immediately used as the concrete substance is already matured. Apart from that there are also grassblocks which are used in gardens. The main advantage of grassblock is its capability to expedite rainwater absorption.
Over the following years PD Hollywood also diversified into other precast concrete products. This strategic move is of utmost importance to further boost sales and profitability in order to strengthen its position as a major market player in Banten province.
Such parallel products include road curbs and monolith concrete blocks (MCB) to improve road systems. Apart from that PD Hollywood also manufactures concrete wall systems such as bataco concrete blocks and concrete fencing systems such as precast panels and precast columns. In addition PD Hollywood also developed and produced concrete sewage systems consisting of concrete pipes, u-ditches and box culverts.
All of these products are manufactured to serve different market segments. The products can be custom made according to each and every client's specifications depending on volume and feasibility. The range of custom made products include concrete roadside flower pots, garbage bins, retaining walls and even extra large box culverts.
Early Beginnings
Established in 1991, PD Hollywood started out as a hardware material shop dealing in hammers, nails, sand, cement etc. Sensing a huge opportunity in the future of cement as a precast concrete commodity, Mr Johnson the founder and president director of the company decided to fully venture into the concrete blocks business in 1994 then naming its brand to Hollywood Concrete Blocks or fondly known now as Hollywood Conblock
With its head office located at Cilegon in Banten province, the main production facility initially produced from a single hydraulic machine. PD Hollywood managed to secure various small and medium sized projects in and around its surrounding areas. One of the biggest projects ever supplied in the early years was to the development of the Port of Merak. Managed by Kajima Joint Operation, PD Hollywood secured 10,000m2 of high quality concrete pavers in the year 1996. This has substantiated its growth and propelled PD Hollywood into the concrete blocks arena, becoming a force to be reckoned with.
In the following year PD Hollywood purchased a brand new German made hydraulic machine known as the HESS machine. Equipped with then the latest and most advanced machine, PD Hollywood weathered and survived the financial crisis that subsequently hit Indonesia. Mr Johnson applied unorthodox financial decisions to stay afloat in a volatile and risky economic situation.
